Glass Bead Maker

About Amanda

With one foot firmly in the world of the theatre, I could be forgiven for making flamboyant jewellery. But a keen sense of colour means I can add a dash of the dramatic while still keeping it wearable and fun.

"Thank you so much for your attention to detail"

Way back in the 80s as a drama student, I started customising vintage beads into new jewellery (‘retro’ hadn’t been invented!). I began making my own glass beads in 1996, and I now use these in my jewellery for mainly one-off commissions and special short run themes for galleries and Designer / Maker fairs.

"That headpiece you designed for me really compliments the outfit, I’m so glad I didn’t buy off the peg!"

I started using millinery techniques a few years ago and have become well-known for making mini Fascinators (Frou Frous) for people who think they can’t wear hats.

Whether I’m melting glass to make intricately patterned glass beads, dyeing goose feathers to a perfect matching colour shade or sourcing an elegant piece of vintage diamante to use within a custom-made headpiece, my first thought is the person who is going to be wearing it.

It should make them look and feel great! I wear a lot of jewellery myself  so I know myself that the right piece of jewellery can really make an outfit.

Changing the shade of the tiniest detail, however subtle, can take a piece of jewellery, into the realms of ‘Wow’, and means you will wear it and wear it.

To get your own little piece of Wow visit my Etsy site, click on The Cat’s Tiaras for all things head adornment and on Commissions to see some of the one-off pieces I’ve made. And if you’d like to see me out and about in person, check out my latest Events.
